Leak Detection

Fast, accurate leak detection before small leaks become big problems.

Service details

A hidden water leak is one of those problems that quietly costs you money long before you ever see it. Water escaping from an in-ground copper main or a pipe buried under paving can run for weeks without a single visible sign, driving up your bill, undermining slabs and paths, and slowly damaging your home. Kel-Tech uses modern acoustic leak detection equipment to pinpoint exactly where the leak is, so we can repair it properly without digging up half the yard to find it.

What’s included

Signs you might have a hidden leak

Most people call us because something feels off rather than because they can see water. It is worth booking a leak detection if you notice any of the following: a water bill that has jumped for no obvious reason, the sound of running water when every tap is turned off, damp patches or unusually green areas in the garden, paving or flooring that has lifted or gone spongy, or a water meter that keeps ticking over when nothing is in use. Any one of these is worth a look, and catching it early almost always means a smaller, cheaper repair.

How we find the leak

We start by confirming there is a leak and roughly where it sits, then use acoustic listening equipment to trace the exact spot along your in-ground copper mains. Because the gear listens for the leak through the ground, we can narrow it down to a small area before lifting a single paver. That means less mess, less guesswork and a repair that targets the real problem rather than opening up your yard hoping to strike it. Once we have located it, a licensed plumber carries out the repair and checks the line is holding before we leave.

Water Corporation leak allowance

If a hidden leak is repaired by a licensed plumber, you may be eligible for a Water Corporation leak allowance of up to 50% of the estimated water lost. It applies to hidden leaks rather than visible ones in taps, fixtures or appliances, and your recent bill needs a water use charge over $250 or usage over 150kL. The leak must be repaired within 60 days of being detected, and you have 6 months from the repair date to apply. The allowance covers part of the water lost, not the cost of the repair itself. Water Corporation confirms the outcome within 20 business days and any approved amount appears as a credit on your next bill. We will give you the invoice and details you need, and you can check the current criteria on the Water Corporation leak allowance and rebates page.
